Land Cruiser II

CarPC Story : Land Cruiser in Africa (Sahara desert) Toyota Land Cruiser Experience II

Preface

After we talked about the installation of the car computer into the Land Cruiser in the first part of the report, we now can see it in action.

Mauritanie trip 10/2006

The route led us via Switzerland, France, Spain (via Zaragossa / Madrid) to Algeciras – proceeding by ferry to Ceuta, by Casablanka at the coast to Agadir and then on the coast road through the West Sahara desert to the Mauritanian border.
In Mauritania we followed the iron ore line heading east and saw the longest train of the world - next "cross-country" in direction of Choum / Atar, from Atar on the "old road" to Chinguetti (sightseeing of one of the oldest islamic libraries). In Atar we bunkered diesel and water for the trip via Bu Naga to Nouakchot (600 km sand and boulders), where we only needed 3 days instead of the estimated 5.
In Nouakchot (which is by far the most dirtiest capital city I ever saw) we gone on the tarred road (which has been completed now !) to Nouadhibou and then took the long way via West Sahara back to the North. – over Quarzarsate, Marakesch, Casablanka to Ceuta – stones throw from Spain to France, Switzerland, back to Germany.

Software used

Navigation with CarPC :
Europe with Marco Polo 2005/2006
Afrika with Toutatech TTQV

The track

Droven km: 13.250
Time duration : ~4 weeks

My conclusions

The PC has survived even temperates over more than 50°C without any problems. Even the most terrible gravel washboard roads have not caused any defects - so we can say it is immune against hardest shocks.
The fold-away displays should have been mounted better by myself, but I will know for the next trip.

In total, the system has absolutely approven its requirements.
