Our carpc project has a problem, please help.
We are using:
Via CN700 motherboard
pcmcia / cf extension slot on motherboard
7" touchscreen
GPS Mouse
Option Globetrotter GT Max pcmcia modem
When XP starts, it regognises the gps mouse. When we put in a Option Globetrotter GT Max pcmcia modem, it regognises the modem.
When we restart, with gps mouse and option modem, the modem doesn't get recognised.
When we restart without the gps mouse, the modem gets recognised
What we have tryed:
-deinstalled gps mouse / option modem
-changed com ports for the devices
-PL2303 latest version
-Com Port Plug and Play Blocker
-Power management for usb is turned of
There are no other conflicts in devices
does anyone have ideas how to solve this?
Marcel

First of all you should re-try with latest GPS drivers :

- Do you have this problem only with one PC or with all of the same kind ?
- Did you tested an alternative GPS receiver model already ?
- Did you tested an alternative PCMCIA modem already ?
- Which COM port is used by the GPS receiver and which one by the PCMCIA modem ?

Al pc's are the same.
Tested with different modem and gps mouse
Modem on Com 3 and 4 and a networkcard
GPS Mouse on Com 5
Changed te com ports for modem and gps mouse
What we see:
Computer starts windows XP
Modem turns on, gps turns on
GPS and Touchscreen are recognised in USB Devices, always.
Modem creates a usb root hub and doesn't go on to create the network card and the 2 usb com ports. It stays at the root hub where is doesn't give a failure.
It's like when it get's the modem first to recognise then everything is good. But that only in 1 of 6 restart attempts.
Without the GPS mouse the modem always is there.
If there would be a posibility to change pnp startup order whe would be fine, but that isn't possible i beleave.

That's really curious
We will ask Jetway about it.

Jetway needs to know in addition :
Can you please let us know if there are any other devices on USB, COM or Parallel? Besides of the GPS Mouse and the PCMCIA Modem. (For Example, TouchScreen by USBx?)

Jetway thinks it could be the IRQ confliction problem.
But they are not able to duplicate the problem so far. They would suggest if you can try:
Try to plug the USB GPS mouse on different USB Port. There are totally 8 (2 at the rear port and 3 pin headers for 6 devices).
Perhaps this can solve the problem.

Problem is solved.
Replaced the modem (from pcmcia to minipci) to bypass the Ricoh PCMCIA/CF and all is fine.
Thank you for looking in to it.

Which revision of the PCMCIA adapter do you have ? Actually there are two different ones. I assume you have the older one (~1+ year old).
