Hi,
I have purchased a CTF700-HM TFT 2 weeks ago, order 8214746.
Since the beginning I've noticed a strange problem with the display, meaning that it refuse to lit up from the first time when the PC starts. Only after I shutdown the PC 2-3 time it begins to display the image.
So, more details : PC is a VoomPC with TFT power connector (CTF700 connected to this connector), Intel D945GCLF2 mainboard.
Like I said this behaviour I noticed since I was playing with the system at home and the TFT was power up with Power Adapter f. EU 230V provided in the package (so I exclude the VOOM TFT power connector and some other car power issues since the problem occurred also at my home).
I hopped that the problem will disappear once the system will be installed in my car, but it didn't
So, the display refuse to lit up (display image) from the first time sometimes. I know for sure that the system (CarPC) is running because I can hear music playing in Centrafuse, but I can't see no image... Even stranger, the touchscreen is working in this situation !!If I press the touchscreen when there is no image, it works, it sends the commands to PC.
This problem occurs from what I observed only after a period of inactivity. For example last night (after I didn't used the car for 1 day) the TFT didn't lit up. After I stopped and started the CarPC for 2-3 times (or something like that) the TFT started to work. After that I didn't had any problem all night. I shut down the CarPC several times, and the TFT worked flawlessly ! But like I suspected, this morning the problem occurred again. Started and stopped the CarPC (meaning started and stopped the engine, waiting the WindowsXP shutdown gracefully) 2 times, after that the TFT lighted up !
So, please help me with a possible explanation, resolution, cause is very very annoying !
Sorry for such a long mail but I tried to give as many details I have in order to solve this problem.
Thank you,
Alex

Not sure, but it sounds like your backlight is broken. Take a light source and shine onto the screen when it's not working. When you see the picture faintly, it means that the light inside the screen is not working. Only thing you can do is return the screen in that case.

Hi..i have the exact same problem. Is your unit the open frame one?...i am convinced that the problem only occurs on cold nights, and the unit powers up only when the car is warm?....This is most annoying, can someone from support please comment?

Open-Frame displays need an enclosure to cover the electronics on the rear side.
(However the new generation Open-Frame displays are closed on the rear side already)
It also could be that the display is not getting enough power so thiker cables might help.

thanks for your comments....but..
I really dont think its a power issue, my screen worked fine for a 2 or 3 weeks until the weather got cold. It also works perfectly well all day, during several stop starts, it only gives trouble when its left overnight on a cold night.
My screen was only purchased about 2 months ago, and is enclosed on the back, the only part of the circuit board that is exposed is the piece where the buttons are. If coldness is the issue, would it be a problem to completly wrap the casing in an insulating material?...could this cause overheating during normal use?

update...today was a mild morning, and my screen started first thing. There has been no changes to wiring, so it is most likely that there is an issue with temperature.
Please comment

Mine is also purchased last month and has all enclosed except the part where the buttons are.
It drive me crazy !
I have my CTF-700 opencase powered up from VOOM case connector (the version with TFT power connector : http://www.cartft.com/catalog/il/841 ) but I've noticed (I think) this behavior also when I had this TFT in my apartment for testing and powered up from 220V outlet.
What is more strange is that I've put a switch (on/off) between TFT power connector and VOOM to simulate PC on/off but it seems is not working. I don't know why, in my logic is the same as the PC power up and down, powering up and down the TFT until it starts working, but I didn't managed to get it working with the switch. I have to power up and down the PC (with ignition ON/OFF, ofcourse I have to wait at least 1 minute to shut down due to M2ATX power supply) between 3 and 6 times until it starts working. So is so frustrating, and what's even more is that I can't return cause I scratched mine at installation !
So please, dear members, carTFT admins, engineers, anybody please tell us what's the problem with these TFTs, I can't believe you are not aware of this problem, there are so many users complaining !

Please, when you find something/anything revert with a recommendation. I've took the TFT to a service but they where unable to find what's causing this because the TFT started at that time and I'm unable to reproduce this behavior.
So if you find what component(s) cause this problem we can take the TFT and go into a service.
Thank you !

Motherboard: Intel D945GCLF2
VGA Extension : currently yes, but I've tested at my home without extension and the same problem
Are u using the power jack plug connector that came on the monitor: yes
I don't think is something related to the config, I think it something related to some hardware components on the TFT display.

hi muntos. I am suspicious it is the actual jack plug connector that powers the screen, as i am using that too. The quick way to check it, is to cut it out, and either replace it, or join the wires directly. I will do this at the weekend and report back.

Ok, please post here if you find something. But how do you will be 100% sure, I'm unable to reproduce this when I want it, it could be 1 day, 3 days or one week when everything works okay...
