Hi, not sure if this is in the right section. I have a voom pc 2 with the via itx board. i have two rca cables running into my sony head unit and i play the sound through my sony head unit. Now the quality of the sound from the pc is very poor. is there anyway i could improve it? Its like the sound is being played on really bad and blown speakers. but yet if i put a dvd in or cd its perfect sound quality.

Hi,
The reason why the quality is so low is because of the bad quality on the onboard soundcard that you are using now. Because you don't have space for a PCI soundcard in your case I would recommend you to go for a better USB soundcard.
I'm running a VIA CN1300 itx board and when I was using the onboard soundcard the quality was very poor. I found a second hand SoundBlaster Audigy NX USB card and the sound quality is like night and day. With the USB sound card it actually is possible to listen to the music Cheesy
M-Audio and SoundBlaster have had some good USB sound card that I would go for if I was you.
If you want to have even better sound quality that the USB sound card you probably need to go for a high end PCI card. I’m using an X-meridian PCI card with swapped OP amplifiers to National LM4562NA. This is a step up compared to the Audigy NX card. But still the biggest change is to go away from the on-board soundcard to a good USB soundcard. If you do that you will be happy with your sound from your car-pc

Good luck with your project

Hello,

you can take a look also to my standalone audio player. Basically it's a mini-pc plus an USB external dac integrated in a single cabinet:
