Hi,
So I'm planning to build a carpc. ONe of the items will hopefully be an old PII. But I've done some research and I've noticed that could be a bad idea. Advantage is of course that I've just got it lying around. So what inverter should I use and how can I see haw much volts my computer needs? Can I use it as is, or do I need to build shockabsorbers for the hard drive.
btw, I want to build it into an old BMW 7-series. Anyone have any experience with that. Maybe someone knows a good place to put my screen? I'm looking to integrate it in the DIN slot.
Oh and Chippie, where are you from? Went to your site and appearantly your flemish as well. I would love to discuss possible pitfalls and stuff like that.
Thanks in advance guys.
Gr,
RR.

Yep RR I'm Flemish as well and live in the city of Visa Cards and Diamonds.
Another thing is that when you take additional power from your battery your car wouldn't start......I don't know if this is true but I heard such a story on a Beamer 5-series. So ask your local dealer.
Problem with your PII is that it is not possible to use this on 12VDC without a convertor to 220VAC......there is no power supply available with those specs. Now you use 350W on the PII??
I suggest you ask Santa Claus a CarPC from CARTFT and you will have mucho fun and less problems with power.
and still ask also a TFT 7" you can put this one everywhere.

lol, visa cards and diamonds, the first clue would have been enough.
Wow, I didn't think it takes so much W for the PII. I thought it would take a maximum 200W. There are converters available to draw up to 200W(I've even seen 300, but I think that doesn't leave enough juice for the rest of the car) from a 12VDC power source.
A way to avoid not being able to start the car is that I could wait to start the computer until the car has started. Besides, I think the 7-series comes with an extra heavy battery, will check.
Thanks for the advice, I have already been looking at the carpc's here ate CARTFT, and they look nifty. But as I said I've got pc's lying around at home so... I'll give it some extra thought though.

RR.

RR what you can do is take a motherboard and a special power supply from cartft but see if the power supply connector is the same as on the motherboard.......this could help.
