GPS RDS/TMC problems

Hi,

I recently bought a GPS-receiver with RDS/TMS, but until now it has been a real pain in the *ss to get it working. I installed the USB-to-comm drivers correctly, but still the GPSInfo tool (that came with the receiver) does not detect my GPS-receiver. M$ MapPoint on the other hand seems to detect the receiver, but complains about the GPS-receiver not using the NMEA-2 protocol. To solve this problem, a link on this website (http://www.delock.de/support/FaQ.htm) refers to the SiRFDemo tool, that did not came with my receiver.

So, does anyone knows a way to get the receiver working correctly, using this SiRFDemo tool or something else ?

Thanks a lot,
Nico.

apparently (at least in my case) the NMEA protocol only works correctly @ 38400 baud ...

Dear Nico,

please ensure that only one program at the same time is accesing the GPS mouse.
The access to the COM port is exclusive and is handled "first come, first served".
This means the first program which opens the com port will block it for other apps.

Thanks for the info :-)

I succeeded in getting the GPS receiver working, but only at 38400 bps. At lower througput rates (e.g. at the default 4800 bps), my laptop receives corrupted NMEA messages. The weird thing is that also at rates higher than 38400 bps, NMEA messages cannot be delivered to the laptop properly :-S

Unfortunately, I still was not able to test the RDS/TMS functionality. Apparently Alturion 5 pro does not detect my GPS receiver as an RDS/TMS compliant one. Does RDS/TMC requires additional drivers, or are the RDS/TMC messages merged into the standard NMEA protocol ? And are there some tools available to test the RDS/TMC functionality of a GPS receiver ? This would help me a lot to discover where things are going wrong.

Kind regards,
Nico.
