Facts:
egalax drivers:
- Binary drivers; the X-Windows driver works mostly fine anywhere, apparently, even with xorg. The userspace utilities, usbpnpd and tpaneld may or may not work depending on distro. same for kernel module tkusb.
- Source code; only works after some modification. tkusb kernel module will only work with 2.4.x kernels. but it does, and that great i think.
Linux drivers:
there is a driver called touchkitusb in the 2.6 kernel series. Facts are, it is incompatible with egalax calibration utils, it is based on microtouch (now M3) touchscreen drivers, so maybe one could caliobrate it with the mtouch calibration apps.
I recommend either:
Use egalax' stuff, it works. Only with 2.4.x tho.
Or, go ahead and make 2.6 kernel driver work.
I found this fine howto: http://linux.chapter7.ch/touchkit/mini-howto.txt
If anyone has suggestions, or better facts, you're invited!
